Echoes of Reflection

Two poles apart, my thoughts would run,

Some sweet, some generous, and a malicious one;

They'd tug and pull in opposite directions,

Leaving me lost in reflections.

The charms of greed, the attraction of power,

The glow of ego, and its vicious shower;

The need for fame, to be someone acclaimed,

“Was it wrong to be wishful?!”, my mind exclaimed.

A grander house, a luxury car,

A vacation a quarter, credit limits no bar;

A little bit more is all I desire,

To pull the mark on my success scale higher.

But success elusive, would trick me every time,

Its illusionary play sucked me deeper into grime;

When would this game of hide-and-seek end?

Would it ever be a steadfast friend?

This cat-and-mouse chase could lead me nowhere,

So I decided to turn around and take a different stair;

Abandoning the quest for worldly treasure,

I delved within, seeking a deeper measure.

The vessel of peace, the cup of joy,

Knocked at my door, a treasure to employ;

No longer entangled in the game's deceit,

I found solace, in my own heart's beat.
