Masks and Faces

Masks and faces,

I meet both.

In masks, I look for faces;

in faces, I look for masks.

Who did you meet today?

A mask of truth,

or a face of valour?

What did you wear today?

A mask of happiness,

or a face of confidence?

If masks were stripped away,

imagine that, for just a day!

What would the world be like?

Would we all know what to say?

If unveiling your inner voice

was a necessity, not a choice,

would your heart feel warm,

or would it raise an alarm?

We wish to see the world in black and white,

while we hold on to our masks tight.

Are we hypocrites, or just naïve?

Can we shed our facades and be truly alive?

Masks and faces,

I meet both.

In masks, I look for faces;

in faces, I look for masks.
